If we dropped virtually all tariffs on the US, I can’t see what the justification could possibly be for keeping them on China

I see no reason to support the US’ trade war on China as they also wage one on us. Or at all, actually, but under current conditions especially.

On one hand, diversifying our trade away from the US and it’s hostile government is a good thing, but on the other hand, we don’t want to trade one abusive partner for another.

By all means reduce trade barriers from China, but don’t go so far as to make us completely reliant on them either.

As a colony of the UK they’re always going to be our most reliable trade partner. France is great too, even if we are more French than them.

The main benefit of China over the US or Russia is that China hasn’t questioned our sovereignty yet. It’s reasonable to see them as an ally much like their neighbours view the US as an ally.

There should never be dependence on them but we can certainly use them as leverage against the US.
