On the 80th anniversary of being liberated by Canadian troops, the team from the city of Leeuwarden are wearing maple leaf-festooned jerseys.

    Small bit of Canadian WW2 history that I read about recently; the collaborationist Georgian legion rose up against their former German allies on the island of Texel in the Netherlands when it became clear that Germany had lost the war. After giving each other a bloody nose, it was Canadian troops who showed up and put an end to it.
