Tell the NDP to prioritize proportional representation

In the weeks ahead, Prime Minister Mark Carney may reach out to the NDP to discuss their priorities in this minority Parliament. It's imperative that the NDP tell Mark Carney that progress on proportional representation is a top priority over the next four years. The 2025 election with first-past-the-post moved Canada even closer to a divisive, two-party system. With first-past-the-post, or any winner-take-all system, we risk following the US down the path of deeply polarized politics, where our Parliament is reduced to two warring camps who see each other as an existential threat.  A strong majority of Canadians back the principle of proportional representation, that the seats in Parliament should closely reflect the popular vote. The strongest democracies in the world use proportional representation. No matter where you live in Canada, you should be able to help elect an MP who shares your values. With proportional representation, results will reflect the true diversity of political opinion in every region of the country.Prime Minister Mark Carney said on the campaign trail that while dealing with the economic crisis is the first priority, he is open-minded to electoral reform. PR happens by multi-party agreement: when two or more parties are willing to negotiate and compromise. A non-partisan, independent Citizens' Assembly on Electoral Reform is a great first step to provide feedback to Parliament about how to make Canada's electoral system more proportional. If want the NDP to prioritize proportional representation, they need to hear from us now! Please send a message now to NDP MPs, Principal Secretary to the Leader Anne McGrath, and the National Director Lucy Watson.

Simple things you can do, to grow the proportional representation movement—so we never have to vote for the lesser of the evils, have a two party system, “split the vote”, or strategic vote
