Tech Aura. If you have it you understand. If you don’t then you watch in awed frustration as the computer that refused to work 10 seconds ago suddenly starts behaving when I.T. touches it. As an aside you know your I.T. are real wizards when stuff starts working just because they walked in the room or answered the phone. :)

I promise that whatever country you live in also has levels to the body armor worn by their special police forces and military.
Why are you not using the shiny new sudo-rs? You some kind of luddite? Get with the times Grandpa!
You don’t need A/C.
Eh, it’s REALLY nice to have right now with daytime highs in the upper 90s. It’s even nicer when it’s both hot and humid.

I was an OG mod for that sub and hearing you say that makes me so sad.
Here’s some history for you; MBW started out with high quality long-form content. Then one day an Admin hand selected it to feature on the Front Page which caused it to explode in popularity, going from about 5,000 subs to over 30,000 in just 48 hours. The new users started upvoting the old content which caused a 2nd and then a 3rd post to organically hit the FP. The growth accelerated.
Later that week the sole mod had a panic attack over the stress and while melting down they deleted the whole sub. At that point I offered to help and they added me as Mod #2. My first official act was working with the Admins to restore the sub from backup. From there we built a moderation team and all of the crap that goes with it like sub rules, wiki, automod, Discord channels.
As the sub got more popular people started posting ever more short form content which was causing the quality to go down even while the subscriber and traffic numbers continued to climb.
A few of us fought hard for a long time to hold the line on quality content, wanting to keep with the higher quality long form content that made it popular even if it meant lower subscriber and traffic numbers. We tried a lot of things to accomplish that but relevant to your comment one of the things was to create “Clever Comebacks” as a place to push the tsunami of Twitter/Tumblr/Facebook dreck. Sadly it didn’t work, people either posted stuff in both places and / or the mod team wouldn’t remove short form content from MBW because it got too popular before it was noticed and they didn’t want to delete something with tens or even hundreds of thousands of upvotes.
As the mod team continued to expand to deal with the ever higher traffic first one then another Powermod was added. I strongly objected to it but was over ruled by Mod #1. Then the Powermods began to stuff the mod team with their friends and sock puppet accounts. That’s when things really started going downhill. They’d delete things that were almost popular then repost it themselves. They’d refuse to remove Posts or Comments from their friends or sock puppets. They implemented bots without sharing the source code. They kept “accidentally” breaking the mod log. They forced endless re-writes of the sub rules, each one giving them more leeway on what fit the sub and what didn’t.
I eventually went hands-off because I couldn’t stop them and couldn’t deal with what MBW had turned into. I finally left the mod team during the API fiasco because they wouldn’t hold the line on the blackout.
So there you have it, a short history of MBW and CC from someone who knows.
On a side note Powermods ruin everything they touch and they’re now showing up on Lemmy.

You’re not the person the meme is targeting. Way to ignore the first 3 panels.
You are correct, this wasn’t targeted at me and I didn’t fully absorb the content before replying to it. I’m going through a rough patch and it clouded me for a bit.
Should we also show “empathy” to Klansmen who joined up because they claim to feel disenfranchised by society?
There’s a chasm of difference between empathizing with a Klansman and empathizing with people who followed a normal, and I use that word loosely, cultural track. The two are so distinctly different that comparing them is absurd.
Your idea of empathy is why the Andrew Tates of this world can thrive.
That guy and the way he lives his life are disgusting, do not associate me with them.
Every lonely man who doesn’t fit the played out internet stereotype of an incel. You likely see several of them a day.
Whew Lad, you must be projecting.
I’m a man, I’m lonely. Why? Because I spent the last 30 years building a career and my social circle is tiny. My personal hobbies and interest took a back seat to building my company, helping my wife through a 2nd and then 3rd Masters Degree, and raising my Son.
Personal Hygiene? Showered at least every day. Dress Well? I’m in collars, slacks, and dress shoes at least 5 days a week. Smell Good? Yeah, got it covered. Smile? Yeah, got it covered. Show Respect? Yeah, got it covered. Practice Good Manners? Pretty rich coming from you.
Go outside and stop blaming women for everything.
You have a child’s understanding of the world around and lack empathy. Go read a book.
This meme is pathetic and offensive.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Six in 10 Canadians want to scrap contract for U.S. warplanes: Nanos poll
2·11 months agoI’ve been hearing a lot about how unreliable the F-35s have been with it being hard to even get them off the ground half the time due to the maintenance needed on them.
The F-35 requires roughly the same amount of mmh / fh as the Gripen, exclusive of engine and air-frame. What’s been hampering the readiness rate of the F-35, which is below that of the Gripen, is the lack of maintenance depots. This was always going to happen because Lockheed planned from the beginning to sell the planes first and build the maintenance depots later. The F-35 sold so well that it outstripped the capacity to build the maintenance depots which created a lack of on-hand parts and technicians. This is turning around and readiness rates are improving as Lockheed slowly gets caught creating maintenance yards.
The Gripen has lower sales (that’s not a knock on it) which made it easier for Saab to keep up on the maintenance side. They also try to get maintenance depots setup simultaneous with deliveries. IMO they’ve done a better job of managing things.

By that logic…
Sure, why not but I’ve been fighting this notion that all libertarians are An-Caps for 20 years and the rise of the MC has turned an uphill battle into a nearly impossible one.
There’s really no question that the MC are owned and operated by the string pullers of the Republican Party. They’re doing it in order to to keep the people who do care about Small Government and Individual Liberty from leaving the Republican Party over the MAGA horseshit.
Eh, arguing is fairly pointless and it’s fair for them to point out that with the MC in charge of the LP the other types of libertarians no longer matter.
The guy posted a follow up comment. The charging connector was broken.

This is a fun little physics problem.
The CoF of a curling stone on ice appears to be between .006 and .016 depending on fast its sliding.
So with a CoF of .006 that 40lb chunk of granite has an effective weight of just four ounces relative to that same chunk of granite at a CoF of 1. With a CoF of .016 it’s relative weight is 9 ounces.
So if the finger brush is in either the X or Y axis then basically anything more than what it takes to press a key on your keyboard will have an effect.
Trying to stop the stone from rotating is a whole different matter because then you’re working against it’s stored inertia and that will be much much higher. No way to calculate that though unless you know it’s rate of spin.
