I mean, if you can’t sell it because of some reason or another, I get it, but why use it at this point? It’s just a rolling PR issue right now.

I was gifted a 2080Ti about a year or so ago and I have no intention on upgrading anytime soon. The former owner of my card is a friend who had it in their primary gaming rig, back when SLI wasn’t dead, he had two.

So when he built a new main rig with a single 4090 a few years back he gifted me one and the other one he left in his old system and started using that as a spare/guest computer for having impromptu LANs. It’s still a decent system, so I don’t blame him.

In any case, that upgraded my primary computer from a 1060 3G… So it was a welcome change to have sufficient video memory again.

The cards keep getting more and more power hungry and I don’t see any benefit in upgrading… Not that I can afford it… I haven’t been in school for a long time, and lately, I barely have time to enjoy YouTube videos, nevermind a full assed game. I literally have to walk away from a game for so long between sessions that I forget the controls. So either I can beat the game in one sitting, or the controls are similar enough to the defaults I’m used to (left click to fire, right click to ADS, WASD for movement, ctrl or C for crouch, space to jump, E to interact, F for flashlight, etc etc…); that way I don’t really need to relearn anything.

This is a big reason why I haven’t finished some titles that I really wanted to, like TLoU, or Doom Eternal… Too many buttons to remember. It’s especially bad with doom, since if you don’t remember how, and when to use your specials, you’ll run out of life, armor, ammo, etc pretty fast. Remembering which special gives what and how to trigger it… Uhhh … Is it this button? Gets slaughtered by an imp … Okay, not that button. Reload let’s try this… Killed by the same imp not that either… Hmmm. Goes and looks at the key mapping ohhhhhh. Okay. Reload I got it this time… Dies anyways due to other reasons

I will say, from my own limited experience, instances of racist/bigoted comments have diminished over time.

I’ll be clear, it still happens. But it’s less than it was.

I’m continually hopeful that racism will be eliminated in future generations, and it is my wish that it happens soon.

I’ll also be clear: I don’t keep company with that kind of person. Anyone who can judge another based on their country of origin, the color of their skin, or their creed/motto/whatever alone, isn’t worth my time, nor effort to associate with, know, or have any kind of relationship with at all, for any reason, for any length of time. Those people are not worth my time nor mental effort to accommodate. They’re not even worth the oxygen they consume.

I’m in a riding that is consistently held by the conservatives, and not by a small amount. There are something like 40-50k votes cast in my riding and the difference between lib and conservative was about 6k.

I still go out and vote, because some day the 6k difference might be 12 individual votes…

If the conservatives win by a handful of votes, and I didn’t vote, I don’t think I could forgive myself.

I’m in Southern Ontario and I’m definitely not a minority.

I see the racist rhetoric regularly. People see me, a straight white male, and more than a few times, mistake me for a like-minded individual, and they let their racism spew out like bile.

Makes me sick.

It also makes me sick to think that Canadians could be so cruel to the indigenous peoples. I don’t think any amount of time, reparations, or anything else, could make up for what occurred.

We’re Canadians, if you’re not indigenous, then you’re either an immigrant, or the descendant of an immigrant. We’re all here, equal in the eyes of the law (not law enforcement/police, the letter of the law), and there’s no good excuse to act otherwise. United we stand, divided we fall. One country in particular, wants us to be divided. Don’t let them win.

A name is just a label. A sound or set of symbols in an order that inspires the concept of that thing in someone else. In the case of someone’s name, mispronouncing my name either has one of two consequences: 1. I don’t hear it. My ear is keen on people saying my name (the way it’s normally said), so if your pronunciation is too far off from how my name is normally said, my ear may not “hear” it, thinking you’re taking to someone else and I will more or less ignore that you’ve “said my name”… OR, when you address me with the wrong pronunciation, I will recognise that the sounds you’ve chosen to use for me, while not typically the sounds associated with the concept of my self, are indeed referring to the same thing.

I comprehend what you mean, and that’s the important bit. The letters/sounds used are secondary to the point effectively being understood.

I’ve been called by all kinds of names, plenty that sound like mine, there’s a very common name that starts with a J that sounds like mine that I’ve gotten a lot, and I’ve even been called by completely different names, and I generally could not give less of a shit about it. Unless the speaker is a friend, or someone I care enough about to value their opinion, then why would I care?
