  • Therefore, it is crucial to note that Hitler chose a party name of national socialists to deceive the general public, in particular the working class, to grow the base and strength of the Nazi Party. This was an intentional lie, deliberate propaganda…

The fact that either PP doesn’t know this, or is trying to deliberately twist the facts, should make every Canadian angry.

To equate true socialism, like making sure that school kids have food in their stomach, to what Nazis did under Hitler, is so dishonest and shameful.

  • The way AdGuard does it, is it has you install a certificate on your phone, which then allows you to block ads and trackers within HTTPS pipelines. If you don’t do that, then it can only block HTTP requests, which tends to be pretty low quality filtering. In addition, I also enable DNS blocking through AdGuard DNS service, so it’s kind of like blanket coverage.

I haven’t honestly found anything that does the same thing, or at least not at the same level of quality. So I’m always curious to see if something new has come out that can reach this level of filtering performance.

Are those green mini icons an indication of a PWA shortcut?

I use the app Hermit to run isolated websites, usually as PWAs. It’s replaced quite a few apps, but I’ve noticed that many companies are intentionally making their web experience shit so they force you to use invasive apps.

Anyway, it can create home icons for those sites, and they run separately (i.e. in your task switcher), so it works better than browser shortcuts.

  • I agree with you, and put “nothing” in quotes for a reason.

Wildfires are mostly out of our control, but nearly all other forms of air pollution (ok, except volcanoes) are in our control, and we really need to step up our game as a global community.

I guess that’s the point of bringing up the comparison with the whole.

If we were to allocate resources, would it be better to mitigate things outside of our control, or should we use those resources to reduce or stop the things that are in our control?

And to that point, what effect would respirators have on these numbers? I noticed in recent reports, where people in Canada were harmed or died because of wildfire smoke, there was never a mention of wearing respirators, especially by those living in the area of those wildfires.

If governments handed out free P100 masks, would people even wear them? Would there be political fights over the “right” to not wear a mask, and add to the burden of those 80,000+ deaths?

More people are dying from car exhaust, yet there seems to be a massive push against active transportation.

The entire thing is frustrating. The things we can control, we seem to fight over, and end up with millions dying prematurely because of it.

Honestly, when put into context, those numbers are “nothing”.

The WHO estimates that outdoor air pollution resulted in over 4 million premature deaths worldwide in 2019 alone! When combined with indoor air pollution, we’re talking over 6.5 million people per year. (source)

Other studies say vehicle exhaust kills over 300,000 a year. (source)

  • An April MIT study found AI Large Language Models (LLM) encourage delusional thinking… … is not a flaw of LLMs, but a deliberate design choice to manipulate users into addictive behaviour that profits tech companies.

Just yesterday, as I was messing around with a local LLM to see how well it does speech-to-text (not to answer any questions), I came across a voice (text to speech) that was basically a woman speaking in ASMR.

I’ll be honest, it was soothing to listen to, and if I were one of those guys who throw money at ASMR talent (onlyfans?), then I can see how this could become quite addictive.

This is 100% by design, and if this LLM voice had an avatar of a woman character you find attractive, you’d be fucked.
