I just don’t use tab grouping (yet) and I don’t want this particular auto-group feature which I keep triggering by accident

I think that it is browser.tabs.groups.smart.enabled to false

If you want to disable this shitty feature completely then also set browser.tabs.groups.enabled to false

That works but that disable the entire system doesn’t ?
I will take that, but now I’m never going to use it. I would rather just turn off the auto-grouping and not the entire thing !
Oh well, at least it CAN be disabled unlike those super annoying tab buttons like playmute and close !

By “auto-grouping” you mean that it groups when you drag and drop, but you still want it available in the context menu? You could set browser.tabs.dragDrop.createGroup.delayMS in about:config to a very high number - then you’ll have to hold one tab over the other for a long time before it actually offers to group them.

Thanks that would be fine as well, it was just a little too short that I was triggering it by accident A value of browser.tabs.dragDrop.createGroup.delayMS=1000 doesn’t get in the way

Found this annoying too but didn’t think to do anything about it until I read this post…

Anyway looking it up, maybe try

    about:config > tabs.group > browser.tabs.group.dragOverThresholdPercent

I guess turn it to 0?

Edit: nevermind this isnt an option anymore on my end.

    Could also disable via browser.tabs.groups.enabled

Trigger it by accident? Isn’t that like saying, that you can’t control your mouse? Or what is it that happens… I have many tabs open, all the time, I use groups too - and I have not once triggered it by accident. You have to hover over a tab, bit another tab, to activate it… and then, it is clearly visible, if you to - and then all you have to do, is move the tab a little away, to to remove the suggested group.

That’s a bit ableist. Some people have issues with motor skills, or just a bad mouse that jumps all over the place. You have to make unnecessary stuff like this at least opt-out.

I don’t object to opt out of a function. And yes - I guess I expect this to be a problem, only if you use a mouse - and if you can’t handle that, maybe it’s not the right tool for you… Take that in what way you want.

I had the issue too. I rearrange my tabs quite often and I’m used to being far more unrestrained in where I place them.

It wasn’t an issue until they forced me to be more precise than I ever needed to be so I don’t accidentally trigger a feature I don’t want or need.

I handle thousands of tabs per day, the other suggestions have resolved it, the 240ms delay is just a tiny bit too short that the function gets triggered occasionally.

Thousand of tabs per day? Let’s just say 2000 tabs a day, now we are in the thousands of them… Let’s say you sleep 8 hours and visit the toilet, eat and so forth, for 2 hours a day. That’s 14 hours left… That’s about 2,4 tabs you use a minute, constantly… I wonder how you manage that, and what you use them for - I’d burn my brain out, trying to relate to the content of 2000 tabs a day… And you might be managing way more… But good that you resolved it…

I can easily open 100 tabs in a minute, for instance, from a list of search result, pickup up promising leads, then flipping through them, I bound the next tab/previous tab actions to my 4th and 5th mouse buttons and if I press both together, it closes the current tab so I can move through them faster. I also select large groups of tabs to make a new window out of it. The moment this issue arises is when I pick one tab out of somewhere and put it in a particular place a particular order in the list of tabs, if you didn’t put it exactly in the gap between two tabs and hesitate for 240ms, then it would autogroup it, often without realizing what had happenned.

It’s more than 2000 some particularly busy days, no I don’t read them all thoroughly, just at a glance I can often tell if it contains what I’m searching for. I wish there where better ways to search all that crap locally, locally save all the tab contents without having to do any more clicks than I already do.
