So much hate over an apology.
Consider the source: a Canadian. We apologize for you bumping into us, but that apology means “I’m sorry you couldn’t have been better.”
We use an apology to mean different things, and it’s subtle. Mr Trump is not, and I am sorry he is not – here I express solidarity with your predicament, but you may interpret that as an admission of guilt.
There’s two non-guilt apologies, and there are more.
I’m sorry this has caused such a stir for some Americans and some Canadians, for instance, but the Canadians will understand I’m apologizing because I worry for the state of people where this is a big deal and I neither confess guilt over it nor overt care for the people so afflicted by this infatuation, and I’m mostly just finishing the talk so I can walk away and forget it happened.
Don’t be upset. Canadians know there was no loss of face here to the guy running the shitty meth lab in our basement. Reach out if we can help.

Disappointed that it’s necessary to do.
But when you’re forced to deal with a toddler carrying a live grenade, like it or not, you have to make some soothing noises once in a while.
Believing you can control that baby doesn’t solve the situation… the baby will keep getting more and more aggressive.
It’s not about controlling him, it’s about keeping him pacified and distracted while you work on other things that get you out of the same room as him.
But you won’t. Nobody will, because the more you try to get away, the more the baby growing in size.
For the record as a US citizen, I am disappointed too, Fuck Trump.
I like carney to some degree (as in more than PP) but he was always going for the neoliberal status quo angle.
He’s a banker, his strategy of dealing with rich spoiled people is probably just appeasement.

i do understand the privacy thing, i read some of the bill on the parliament website.
I thought the ad was good, especially since it used Trump’s own hero to undermine his tariff tactics.
But I find it quite surprising that Carney would apologize since it seems highly unlikely he wouldn’t have known about the ads beforehand, given his ties to Ford. But then again, this is Trump he’s dealing with.
He’s apologizing so he can sell us out to Trump.
“I’m sorry you were offended” is still an apology. We’ll never find out exactly what was said.
I am guessing that is what was said, but Carney is not saying that he did not drop to his elbows rather then staying elbows up.
Carney could get angry, jump up and down and get all red in the face, but in the end what will it accomplish? Nothing, the diaper Don is going to Diaper Don and in the end it’s about business not about our feelings, we need to be pragmatic so we can pay the bills and keep the lights on. We can’t control the US all we can do is keep the orange baby from burning down our house along with his, and massively change our trade focus from north/south to east/west, interprovincially, as well as internationally. This is going to take time and can’t happen overnight, so i understand why Carney doesn’t want to light a match under Donny’s diaper just yet.
Sure, but the Canadian government isn’t the one who put out the ad. The Ontario government did. Why does Carney have to apologize for something that Ford did?
It was a quick and easy way to shut the toddler up and defuse the situation and give the mango Mussolini some time to get over his tantrum. Trump will move on to another of his spectacles to distract his base from thinking too deeply about his corruption. Trump doesn’t know or care how Canadian Government works, let alone his own. Ford wouldn’t have done it of course, and it was an easy thing for him to do, Carney is just being his pragmatic self.
It sucks, but is unfortunately a necessary part of dealing with Trump. Carney probably hates what he has to do here, but I think it’s the right strategy of working on diversifying our trade partners while still jumping through the hoops to close a US deal

Jesus… these comments are fucking ignorant. The Federal government is trying to get a deal to save CDN industry, and the local village idiot in Ontario has now decided to change his brand from MAGA and pro-Trump, to “elbows out” while throwing our metals, mining, and auto industry under the bus.
How many of these “elbows out” assholes are willing to lose their jobs?
We need adults here, not a leader with dementia having a brain summit with a high school GED in charge of a trillion dollar economy.
Ford has no regrets about those ads because he’s not going to suffer if we shut down out major industries, his simps will just blame Carney or Trudeau, and the worst he’ll get is an extra wide Board seat next to Mike Harris.
