When officers entered the school on Tuesday afternoon, they found six victims deceased, RCMP confirmed.
An individual believed to be the shooter was also found deceased with what appears to be a self‑inflicted injury.
Two victims have been airlifted to the hospital with serious or life‑threatening injuries. A third victim died while being transported to hospital. Approximately 25 others are being assessed and triaged at the local medical centre for non‑life‑threatening injuries.
The active shooter alert was lifted at 5:46 p.m. PT.

As an individual I want to express my condolences to everyone in Tumbler Ridge, and may the victims rest in peace. This is a national tragedy.
I hope the community is offered ongoing psychological care and that there is an immediate effort to mitigate physician shortages that they are already suffering.
To feel how I felt when I read the news this morning, I can’t even begin to imagine the grief, misery, anger, sadness, and whirlwind of emotions from those directly impacted.
There is a period of respect where politics on the matter should take a backseat, but I will say that the BC leadership and federal government should discuss what they have learned from this tragedy. I have no answers.
Right now, I just want to express my support to anyone who may be reading this that was affected. If anyone needs somebody to talk to privately, for any reason, please know I am here if you privately message me.
That period of “respect” needs to be incredibly short. As in, I’m sick of these highly political situations losing all their momentum as if that respects any of the victims, including, in some cases, the shooter.
This is a mental health crisis, likely a poverty issue, and a bunch of other things that we need to take apart now because we certainly don’t do it when things are calm.
This was a mental health crisis brought on by transphobia based on my reading.
Last trans shooter was a trans man and his shooting was brought on because he was a victim of sexual abuse and a cover up in a catholic school.
Only about 5 trans shooters since we started tracking, >90% men, <9% women, <1% trans.
Violence is the language spoken by the unheard. I do not excuse the shooters, but understand they are victims of their own material conditions.
We need to do better.
I agree. Violence is a societal issue, not an identity one.
The sooner we realise this, the better. Regardless of who you are, what your background is, what extreme things you are exposed to – you do not go out and kill a bunch of innocent people unless there is something significantly wrong with your mental state.
I agree with you wholeheartedly. To phrase it a little differently; people need to provide a moment to show empathy, reflection, and assistance if possible. To let the event sink in. This gives the victims the acknowledgment and understanding they deserve, and makes the general public more deeply impassioned as a result.
Absolutely there needs to be political follow-up to dig to the root of the issue and take the necessary actions to prevent repeat cases.
