This should not be considered an accident. This is the expected outcome of the US cuts to FAA. This was social murder.
Listen to the ATC it’s legit an accident. The idiot driving the firetruck was literally being yelled at by the ATC “Stop Stop Stop” over the radio.
There was an active “emergency” happening prior to the accident, a plane that was already on the ground had declared an emergency due to I think a burning smell in the back of the plane. That firetruck I believe was on their way to that plane. Perhaps if everyone wasn’t on edge and properly paid this might of not happened but I think it would of as this wasn’t ATC giving incorrect orders or info it was someone not listening to control when crossing an active runway.
The controller was basically doing two people’s jobs at once, and did clear the truck to drive through before he realised. Presumably he was just too late.
R.I.P. to those pilots and all the best to their families, and hopefully a huge international lawsuit.
Also all the best to the passengers on the plane who survived and will have some trauma to deal with.

Even there, it’s the federal government. They make the money, and basically pay for things by typing in whatever number they need. Nobody in Washington will even track it except maybe for photo ops.

Not a freak accident, an understaffed ATC was communicating on two frequencies and told the firetruck it was safe to cross. All to save money equivalent to half a bag of peanuts per passenger.

This is more than likely due to the shutdown and shortage of staff … but the controller will likely face charges even tho it’s not all their fault.
If I was s flight controller and the guy who made this mistake was jailed or charged with wrong doing while not getting paid, I would not return to work. That’s beyond fucked up. If the government shuts down they should shutdown the airports too if the controllers are not getting paid. This death falls squarely on the orange turd. Incorrect. Charges are generally filed in cases of intoxication, intentional sabotage, or willful and flagrant violation of safety protocols, none of which appeared to happen here. It’s already known he was working two frequencies (although it was middle of the night) and dealing with an emergency aircraft on the ground - overworked rather than negligent.
It is likely for there to be a civil case from families impacted. However, while they would probably file suit against the controller among other entities, federal law means that liability goes to the federal government. It seems quite possible that there will be liability found, and it will probably be primarily the feds who end up paying any judgements.

The FAA isn’t shutdown, just DHS. But these folks are way over worked and belittled by our current administration.
