If we are going to protect Canada and keep it’s jobs here this is the type of thing we need the government to stop corporations from doing with a tax on outsourced jobs.

I can also verify this happened because my close friend was a part of the downsizing in favour of outsourcing.

    I stopped shopping at Canadian tire when they turned into a dollar store and reduced their auto tools selection. Before that I spent a lot of money there.

    They were also knowingly, or via huge accounting incompetance, defrauding the consumer and government. They would advertise a product on sale, so you go in and buy a $500 product that had a flyer savings of $100 for sales price of $400, but at the till they would apply the discount after charging taxes. So your receipt showed you paid fill tax on $500. When they report the sale to the government they’d claim a $400 sale and only remit taxes on that $400. So they’d keep 12-13% tax charged on the extra $100, screwing the customer.

    Guy’s a chud. Another post from this Instagram profile: “RIP Charlie you were the best of us.” This post is also explicitly calling for policy inspired by Donald Trump’s isolationist looting scheme. The account was made the day after Kirk got proven wrong and then posts this.

    Pretty clear picture to me.

    Instagram is a restrictive technology. It limits users ability to view pages and makes unreasonable data collection demands to access those pages. Those demands include personally identifying information, location, sexual orientation, political and religious beliefs, contact information, health and fitness data, browser hisory, and many more.

    Don’t use instagram to share information you think is important, find a less restrictive platform.

    About four years back, CT outsourced their entire IT infrastructure to an Indian company notorious for lowest-common-denominator level work. They could keep the lights on but not plan, develop, or change.

    According to my friends in the company, it has been the disaster we all predicticted, and even more.

    And now they’re doing it again.

      That never goes well. We do various things at our company, one is helping customers troubleshoot their software issues and the environment they have configured. We dread when it is outsourced IT, because the customer has no clue about the environment setup and the outsource IT has no clue either because they are changed out every year. So we have frustrated customers being nonproductive whose managers think they saved money by firing their IT guy.

      I will not defend this guy in any way shape or form but to hijack yet another thread that affects Canadians to say the american name that is everywhere again is completely missing the message of the post; if you constantly want to talk about him hit up the posts for him.

      Lets stay on topic with the fact that a Canadian company is getting rid of Canadian workers for outsourcing to another country.

    this has been happening for decades in Canadian and other western countries. Canada’s financial sector firms are a c-suite, reserve accounts at the BoC, and a giant pile of services purchased from the US, India, Colombia etc.

    The cancelled digital services tax was the lightest of scratches at the fixing the problems of trade in services.

    All the noise about resources and goods tarrifs? Trade in services is larger, and services are a vastly larger share of the non-trade economy.

      We’ve practically accepted that most major Canadian corporations’ customer service is done in Asia and we’ve swallowed the drastic reduction quality that came with it. I was shocked when I started dealing with Meridian Credit Union’s customer service which is based in southern Ontario. I spent so much less time waiting, repeating, retrying… the contrast was just stark. This is not to say that CSR in Asia can’t deliver equivalent quality, but our corpos didn’t outsource just to pay high wages in Asia.

        As youve stated, companies don’t relocate to Asia to deliver equivalent quality, they do it to cut costs. And unfortunately if you pay less you will get a lower quality product.

        A lot of simpler customers take their anger out on the CSR. I think companies even consider that to be a bit of a feature. They’d prefer you be angry at Filipino or Indian people and assume they’re incompetent rather than blame the company itself. This was actually pretty common in the early 2000s. Thankfully more people have a better sense of awareness now and realize this is a more direct fuck you from the company to the customer and the CSR agent is just stuck in between.

        CSR in Asia is probably more likely to deliver equivalent quality if the people they provided service to were more local to them. Wouldn’t be surprised if quality of service increases the more local the workers are.
