Shouts and chants rained down upon politicians at the Ontario legislature Monday as the government passed a housing bill that critics say makes it easier for landlords to evict tenants.

“People over profits,” members of ACORN Canada, a tenant advocacy group, chanted from the public gallery at Queen’s Park at the time of the vote.

At one point, Premier Doug Ford told the yelling crowd to “go find a job.”

People have to accept that this is not a game, this government will kill you for profit. It isn’t a difference of “opinion” or a sign of the need for reform, it is a life or death struggle and they’ve shown that they will not respond to diplomacy or negotiation. You are a target.

The landlords have the job of ensuring rent stays unaffordable, why would doug stop that? His developer buddies don’t wanna build in a fair market where 3500/month is unreasonable for a 1000 sqft condo.

Gotta trigger people to go out and vote. We could have 999 elections, and they’d all have the same result if people continue to not bother voting. That’s why we are where we are now - everybody wants to bitch and complain, nobody wants to actually go out and make a difference when they have the chance.

Why bother, they keep voting for him. What the hell is an election supposed to do?!

It might make a difference if it’s triggered right when he’s done something that’s caused his party’s popularity to dip.

Holy fucking shit. Shut up with this stupid narrative. MOST VOTERS DID NOT VOTE FOR THIS GOVERNMENT. Even if the turnout was high and he won, it doesn’t matter because we don’t have the fucking time to wait for another election. You are fantasizing, time to catch up with reality.

Did you go to your MPP’s office? Are you willing to get arrested fighting this? I’m so tired of liberals in this country conveniently drawing the line of action where they’re most comfortable. They’re going to target you either way.

And it still barely works then cause we don’t have proportional representation. Doug ford has 65% of the seats with 40% of the vote. He is not what most of Ontario wants, but its what we are stuck with.

Doesn’t change the 65% of the seats for 40% of the votes statistic. Most voters didn’t want him. Those who didn’t vote don’t impact the polls, maybe if they did vote it could skew the broken system away from Ford but it is clear our voting system needs to be reformed.

It needs reform, however not voting means you are just as okay with the elected official as you are somebody else getting voted in. If people cared to try to get him out, they would vote. In fact, with the system as broken as it is, it’s even more important to go out and vote if you don’t want him.

Despite temptation, I have not once yelled that at the perma-protestors at a nearby abortion clinic. I also have not thrown fake fetuses, nor installed a high-dB air horn and hoped for a drive-by coronary.

I am the embodiment of restraint. Or something.

Don’t fall into the trap of decency, these people have already written you off as a person. Decent behaviour limits activism, they may very well stop protesting outside of healthcare facilities if they’re bullied away. Chuds understand that people don’t want to be mean and they see that as a weakness in you that can be manipulated to their benefit.

Yes, one of those many jobs that the job creators are creating from their reduced taxes that they’re definitely not using for their own benefit after mass layoffs.
